Living in Moorooka with my partner Nicole and son Leo, I know how wonderful this area is. But with a growing population and increased development, we need to invest in the local infrastructure that makes our neighbourhood liveable long-term.
Here’s just some of the things I’m fighting for in the area:
Create a dedicated busway along Ipswich road from Moorooka to Woolloongabba Station giving locals rapid, high-frequency buses that don’t get stuck in traffic, taking cars off the road
Establish a new high-frequency bus from Rhydarra St in Yeronga, along Hyde Rd through to Fairfield, the Annerley high street, the Greenslopes busway and into Coorparoo
Reopen the Tennyson train line so locals can connect east–west between Sherwood and Yeerongpilly, helping tackle traffic on the Walter Taylor bridge
Deliver CityCat Terminals at Tennyson and Yeronga, connecting locals to UQ, the western suburbs, West End and the CBD
Install safe, protected bike-lanes along Fairfield Rd from King Arthur Terrace to Annerley Rd bikeway, and fix the Venner Rd/Fairfield Rd roundabout with a signalised intersection and safe pedestrian crossings
Deliver new public and genuinely affordable medium-density housing on long-term vacant sites in Annerley and parts of the currently light industrial area in Moorooka
Buy back the giant 60ha golf course in Yeerongpilly/Rocklea and establish a ‘New Rocks Riverside’ public park with outdoor water play and playgrounds, BBQ areas, flood resilience and biodiversity areas
Expand the Resilient Homes Scheme to support residents on floodplains in areas like Rocklea, Fairfield, Graceville and Yeronga with more buybacks and floodproofing renovations, and ban future development on floodplains
Deliver a Hanlon Park-style creek restoration of Sandy Creek at Shaftesbury St Park Tarragindi for greater flood mitigation, biodiversity and public amenity
Establish a new library at the Moorooka Woolies so locals don’t have to drive out of the area for community facilities and free kids activities
Tackle flight noise with more flights over the water, a curfew from 10pm-6am, and a cap on total flights. Cancel the Queensland Government Attracting Aviation Fund which subsidises big airline corporations to fly over the city at night time.
